Wrecks abandoned at these official graveyards demonstrate shipbuilding technologies from the 1850s to the 1960s and represent the diversity of craft that plied South Australian waters during the 19th and 20th centuries. They range from majestic windjammers, steamships and motor vessels that travelled international waters, to coastal traders, fishing boats, ferries, tugs, dredges and barges.

The largest concentration of graveyard sites is near Adelaide on the mudflats of Port Adelaide or the shallow coastal waters of Gulf St Vincent. Five individual sites are in the Port Adelaide area, containing a total of at least 40 vessels, the largest is at Garden Island in the North Arm of the Port River with 25 known vessels abandoned between 1909 and 1945. Cham island, Vietnam – A part of the world’s lung

Lying in Tan Hiep commune, in the central province of Quang Nam’s Hoi An town, Cu lao Cham or Cham island is a cultural historical monument that is closely associated with the establishment and development of Hoi An town for a thousand years.

The island has become one of 15 Vietnamese maritime reserves since 2007. However, in May, 2009, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) accepted Cham island as a world biosphere reserve thanks to its topography, the biodiversity value and the unspoilt and attractive landscape.

The sapphires
The island consists of eight islets, including Hon Lao, Hon Dai, Hon Kho me or the mother Hon Kho, Hon Kho con or the child Hon Kho, Hon La, Hon Tai, Hon Ong. Each islet with a distinct feature of beauty and wonderful sand beaches make an ideal landscape. The abrupt mountain slopes, big waves and floristic composition makes these islets like unpolished sapphires. The island is, therefore, an ideal destination.

Kingdom of aquatic animals
With 500 hectares of sea-weed alga, marine algae and sea grass and 165 hectares of coral and sea creatures, the island is considered a kingdom of aquatic animals. Of which, the coral has 135 species, algae and sea grasses have 500 species, fish 202 species, lobster 4 species and mollusks 84 species. Under the clear fresh water is coral and shoals of colorful fish. If you go for a scuba dive you will encounter a beautiful marine world.

Go and discover
Cham island is 15 kilometres from Cua Dai beach and 20 kilometres off the coast from Hoi An ancient town. If reach the island by hi-speed boat, it will take you just 30 minutes. Meanwhile, boat ticket prices are very reasonable. Therefore, there will be no reason for you to miss the chance of taking a visit to such a natural and unspoilt landscape, fresh air and cool climate. From Cua Dai beach, you can also take a trip to the island by a normal boat.

However, before starting the trip, you should be aware of environmental protection. You should not bring anything made from plastic or anything that could damage the environment.

After starting the boat, you will quickly reach the largest islet- Hon Lao, that covers 1.317 hectares and is 500 metres high. This islet is, therefore, considered as the rooftop of these islets. Continuing on the trip you can visit the historical monuments of Hai Tang Pagpda-a 300-year architecture located among three mountains called Bat Long, Ngoa Long and Tiem.

There are so many wonderful landscapes on Cham island that you can not visit far-away places on a day tour. However, destinations that you should not miss include Lang Ong, the old well, Huong fishing village, and an exhibition of nature and the Cham island people’s culture.

A classically-trained French chef, Tourneville’s passion for painting savory landscapes on plates began at the age of 15 with his first apprenticeship. He then graduated from the renowned Cooking School of the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry at age 17; moved to England where he cooked for intimate restaurants and small private castles; then the French Embassy in London. During his tenure, he made lunch for the Queen Mother. Tourneville’s French military service was spent as the private chef for an admiral. The French Foreign Ministry was most impressed that they then sent him to Algeria, as the Head Chef of the French Embassy. He then ventured to the French Embassy in Jakarta where he tantalized palates once again.

During a trip to Bali, Chef Tourneville fell in love with the island and, fortuitously, noticed that there were no restaurants serving French cuisine. It was then he and fellow Chef Said Alem had a masterful idea – Kafe Warisan was conceived. Swiftly, the French restaurant became a Bali institution, and soon after world-renowned for consistently excellent cuisine. Kafe Warisan closed on October 3, 2009, to make way for all-encompassing MÉTIS.

At MÉTIS, the culinary artistry is gracefully complemented by contemporary colonial style, infused with elegant architectural design elements inspired by Indonesian batik patterns. Villa Des Indes I and II are named after a famous early 20th century hotel in Batavia, the former Java. Situated in a private road off Jalan Oberio, both residences offer guests a captivating journey through time, combining nostalgic luxury with the exemplary services of personal butlers and top class chefs.

The skilled artisans of Limasan in Central Java cleverly carved Joglo houses using traditional tongue and groove techniques, foregoing any use of nails in the design. Two hundred years ago in Cyprus life was slower, healthier and predictable.
It was slower in the sense that travel, from one side of the island to the other, could take days. Most people spend there days in the fields, taking a few breks throughout the days to eat wholesome food which they grew themselves.

Cyprus bread was the staple delicacy and was much healthier that the chemically injected and processed foods we consume today.

As for predictability, well, the sun would rise, the fields would be worked hard, the wheat would gathered, and as usual, the donkey would start the long trek to the Mill House, where the seeds were carefully separated and ground into flour in order to bake the village bread.

Two hundred years ago in Cyprus, breakthrough technology was an updated water mill, designed to be powered by directing water onto a series of intricate valves and wheels in order to create the mechanical possibility of grinding flour, the ingredient that supported much of the life on the island.

Today in the 21st Century, seldom do we even consider this process, as most of our food is nicely wrapped and colorfully branded in the supermarket.

We are accustomed today to whizzing through the supermarket, one hand on a cell phone, text messaging while we lump items into our basket and head for the check out counter with our favorite credit card.

We are addicted to fast service, fast food, and fast results and rarely consider the consequences of our actions.

Dr. Michael Nestoras, a leading physician in Cyprus, is on a private campaign to change this trend.

He has recreated a real life working Water Mill, near the sleepy village of Yiolou, 18 minutes from Paphos.

In North Vietnam, life is slower and more traditional than a part in the Southern. The city center of Hanoi, the county’s capital, is arranged around a lake that is often misty and quiet.

It is also an artisan's town, and what you'll do there is less destination-oriented, than just wandering, stopping for food along the way. Art galleries are common, and the streets are wide promenades. Still, the relaxed, rural-like pace of Hanoi makes it hard to remember that this is the capital of a country of 80 million, the size of Germany.

Hanoi's "water puppet show," located near Hoan Kiem Lake, is hawked endlessly in backpacker hotels, but tends to underwhelm. And every taxi driver knows the way to Ho Chi Minh's tomb, which can be fun for a photo. But in general, Vietnam is a place to experience daily life in the country. Rather than working through a list of sites, you'll head out of your hotel for a walk through the endless streets banked with roadside restaurants, markets and galleries on every block.

In Vietnam, two trips to rural areas are common, and both are worth the time and effort. The first is to Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a two-hour ferry ride from the country's third-largest city, Haiphong. You can arrange a trip to the area with several tour operators from most hotels in Hanoi. From Hanoi, it's a three-day trip, with some accommodations available on the water in sleeper boats or on land in modest but clean hotels. Days in Halong Bay are spent sailing amid limestone cliffs that rise like immense walls from the middle of the sea. Some are narrower at the base than the top. Climbing is not yet possible, though that is inevitably coming.

Floating villages built on drums are lashed to these cliffs. A boat captain can usually arrange a seafood lunch for $10, plus a tour of these villages, some of which have started to make more money from tourism than fishing. You’ll have the best night sleep of your life.

Once back in Hanoi, the second outing you should consider is a jeep trip for three to six hours into the villages north and west. Spend a night in the highlands, Sapa for instance. Home to people called collectively, if a bit broadly, "the hill tribes," life in this area is culturally different from life below. The people there attract interest for hewing even today to ancient costume and practices. The variation of people in the hills is too vast to list. It's important to arrange a guide who speaks Hmong or any of the other hundreds of dialects.

Geometri atau ilmu ukur telah menginspirasi lahirnya Renaisan, yang pada akhirnya membawa Eropa menujuk puncak kejayaan. Realita ini terlihat dalam karya-karya seni Eropa mulai pada abad 12-15. Inspirasi ini kemudian memicu lahirnya revolusi sains di Eropa pada abad ke 15-17, yang dimotor oleh Copernicus, Galileo , Descartes dan Newton. Pemikiran ini kemudian termanifestasikan dalam bentuk teknologi yang memicu lahirnya revolusi industri dan mendorong terjadinya proses kolonialisme dan imperialisme. Ia memicu terjadinya arus balik (meminjam bahasa Pramoedya Ananta Toer) dari selatan ke utara menjadi dari utara ke selatan. Bangsa-bangsa di timur menjadi warga kelas dua di dunia.

Perkembangan lanjutan dalam studi geometri telah membawa krisis ke dalam tradisi saintifik di belahan dunia utara. Kondisi ini terjadi ketika mulai dikenalnya objek-objek objek yang tidak berdimensi bulat (garis=dimensi 1, lingkaran=2, bola=3, kubus=3 dan seterusnya) melainkan sebuah bilangan pecahan atau fraktal. Hal ini terlupakan dalam kebudayaan Eropa.

Penelitian yang dirintis dan dimotori oleh Bandung Fe Institute (www.bandungfe.net) dan Bandung Fe Institute dan Surya Research International (www.ekonofisika.com) menunjukan bahwa batik bersifat fraktal. Jauh sebelum Eropa mengenal konsep fraktal, kita telah mengakuisisinya dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Batik telah membuktikan kepada dunia bahwa Indonesia bukanlah sebuah bangsa terbelakang. Batik bukanlah sebuah seni tradisi semata, ia dapat menjadi inspirasi untuk kebangkitan Indonesia.

Namun tentu saja, kita tidak boleh berhenti pada upaya penggalian kearifan nilai-nilai budaya tradisional semata. Kita harus mampu melakukan inovasi dengan memanfaatkan sains dan teknologi untuk memperkaya budaya Indonesia, bukan mendangkalkan budaya tradisi yang kita miliki. Semangat inilah yang melatar belakangi dikembangkannya teknologi pembuat motif batik dengan memanfaatkan perangkat komputasi oleh Bandung Fe Institute.

Pakar makanan Kanada, Massimo Marcone pernah mengangap Kopi Luwak adalah legenda masyarakat belaka, dan melakukan test laboratorium dan menemukan bukti bahwa sistem pencernaan musang mengurangi kadar kafein pada kopi yang dimana menjelaskan bahwa kopi Luwak tidak sekeras kopi pada umumya, dan enzim musang mencerna protein penyebab pahitnya kopi.

Marcone adalah salah satu ahli yang terkenal oleh dunia dibidang makanan, datang ke Indonesia masuk ke hutan tropis Sumatra, dia menggumpulkan kisaran 5 kg tongkolan kopi luwak utuh yang terbentuk dari biji-biji kopi. Dengan menggunakan “standar emas” untuk menganalisa kopi luwak dalam lab di Universitas Guelph di Ontario. Seperti ahli forensik membaca tanda bekas peluru, Marcone menatap kopi luwak di bawah mikroskop elektron, mencari tanda khusus dari kotoran kopi luwak. Penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa peminum kopi luwak perlu berhati hati dengan kopi yang diminum supaya tidak tertipu, karena sulit untuk menbuktikan keaslian secara visual.

Kopi Luwak asli beraroma floral, vanilla, coklat, tidak pakit, tidak sepat, after taste yang kompleks dan mantap sehingga terasa sampai ke kerongkongan, tetap enak walau sudah dibiarkan dingin.

The low-key but bijou atmosphere is apparent from the moment you enter the resort via a narrow tree-lined drive. While registration takes place, your feet are washed and massaged in an airy pavilion; at this point you can decide the "discovery path" of spa treatments you wish to take during your stay. On the way to the room you pass the candles, petals and intricate woodwork that are to be found throughout the intimate retreat.

Relaxation and well-being is all: from yoga at dawn to the continual offers of fresh juices and cooled towels as you sun yourself by the pool, to the daily lessons in Balinese crafts and the soft chimes of the gamelan-player that accompany dinner overlooking the Indian Ocean.

Trat is Thailand's eastern-most province, located about 315 kilometers from Bangkok. This small province borders on Cambodia with the Khao Banthat mountain range forming a natural demarcation. During this period the western coast can be wet and stormy and occasionally unsafe for ferries and smaller boats to lift anchor. However, visitors can still visit the islands via the normally more popular routes, most of which are to the northeast of Ko Chang, anyway.

The Past
The history of Trat can be traced back to the reign of King Prasat Thong of the Kingdom of Ayutthaya. Formerly known as Muang Thung Yai, Trat has played an important role in the development of country's stability and economy due to its strategic location. The town of Trat has later become a community of Chinese Merchants.

Trat served as a checkpoint and buffer city in 1767 and was responsible for providing provisions to King Taksin the Great before he moved his navy from Chanthaburi to Ayutthaya, where he expelled the Burmese and liberated the Kingdom from Burmese rule.

In the Ratanakosin period, during the reign of King Rama V, Trat played an important role again in stabilizing the country's sovereignty. King Rama V made an agreement with the French government (who had also taken Chanthaburi under its supervision) to get Trat back. In doing this, Phra Tabong, Siamrat and Sri Sophon were traded off.

The Ascott Group (Ascott) has transformed a national heritage building and Southeast Asia’s tallest tower in the 1950s into a premium serviced residence in Singapore. The former Asia Insurance Building (AIB) is now the Ascott Singapore Raffles Place after a S$60-million conservation and restoration effort.

Today, the architectural icon stands as a private sanctuary in a class of its own. It provides global travellers the comforts of a home right at the heart of the Marina Bay waterfront business and lifestyle hub.

AIB was the first modern highrise office building designed and constructed in Singapore after World War II. It symbolised Singapore’s development as an important financial hub, and is one of the few remaining highrise buildings from the 1950s. In April 2007, the 52 year-old landmark was gazetted as a conservation building by the Urban Redevelopment Authority. The building represents a legacy of the country’s history through Ascott’s careful conservation and restoration.

AIB was designed in 1955 by Dr Ng Keng Siang, the first Singapore member of the Royal Institute of British Architects. Dr Ng was a prominent British-trained local architect who demonstrated a quantum leap in the architectural field by successfully marrying the tenets of the modern movement with local influences.

The Right Honourable Malcolm Macdonald, P.C., then Commissioner General for the United Kingdom in Southeast Asia (1948 to 1955) said: “The building was a most distinguished landmark, seen from miles in every direction… in one of the world’s greatest commercial centres.” This statement was made on 19 June 1953 as he put the finishing touches to a plaque that is still displayed at the building’s exterior more than half a century later.

Mr Shriniwas Rai, lawyer and former nominated Member of Parliament who worked in his law office in Asia Insurance Building for 35 years, was 10 when he first saw the building. He was arriving in Singapore with his family from India by ship. Mr Rai said: “Asia Insurance Building was an attraction as many parents brought their children there for a view of the tallest building in Southeast Asia. It was ‘the’ premium office building at the time; space in the tower was S$1 per square feet, five times more than the 20 cents per square feet cost at other buildings. I have fond memories of my time there; to me it is one of the few buildings which can be truly considered Singapore’s national architecture heritage. I am glad that the building is being preserved and with added glamour as the new Ascott Raffles Place.”

Mr Lim Chin Beng, Ascott’s Chairman said: “Asia Insurance Building has a special place in Singapore’s history as Southeast Asia’s tallest tower in the 1950s. Over the last two years, we have given a lot of care to conserve this gem and bring it back to its former glory. We looked into every detail to keep as much of its heritage as possible. It is a landmark with a unique 50s Art Deco architecture that is befitting of Ascott’s flagship in Singapore.”

An ode to Ha Long Bay

Our first day was spent relaxing on the deck and in our cabin, although there were various activities tourists could enjoy partaking in on land, such as visiting Bat Cave, Cua Van fishing village or Soi Sim Beach. Most of us were not interested in stepping off the junk, since it served as an idyllic day-trippers’ paradise. Lying on the beds at night, we could see both the high limestone towers and bright stars glittering in the dark sky.

We went to bed early that night. Perhaps it was the effect of consuming a few glasses of good red wine on deck, or the cool breeze coming in from the large window mixed in with the intoxicating air from the cream lilies, that served as soothing lullabies.

The second day began filled with energy as we woke up early to participate in a tai chi session on the sun deck. We then transferred to the day-trip boat and cruised to the bay’s most untouched areas. A buffet-style breakfast was served on the boat, which was not only impressive in its various delicious Western dishes, but also served very good Vietnamese pho (noodle soup).

By the time we completed our breakfast we had reached Ngoc Vung Island. It was sunny and none of us could refuse to take a light bicycle trip through untouched forests to enjoy the natural scenery here. After half an hour, we found ourselves in front of the endless white sand-beach with not a single human shadow in sight. From afar, the sea could appeared as an emerald. I changed into a bathing suit while my mother chose to relax under the cool shadows of the pine forest.

The highlight of the trip turned out to be kayaking in the afternoon, when our boat reached Cong Do area. All of us were very eager, although my mother seemed hesitant. She had never squeezed into a kayak before and she didn’t know how to swim.

Our second day came to a good end with a delicious dinner, a grilled seafood feast, after which we went off to see people catching squids offshore. Passengers who caught squids could be found at our table for a second dinner, laughing away as they shared their funny stories.

The next morning our ship steamed forward to Sung Sot Cave, one of the bay’s most impressive limestone caverns. The entrance required a hike up stone steps to a spot high above the bay. More steps led into receding chambers, past humongous stalactites and stalagmites that resembled giant sandcastles.

Our cruise ended in the afternoon with us waving to the staff as we returned to land. Ha Long is like a story whose ending I thought I had reached but in reality I discovered that it has many alternative endings that need to be discovered, again and again.

The rare skeleton is the property of a private collector in Europe and is the star attraction of a sale of dinosaur and other fossils at the auction in Paris. It is expected to fetch around 500,000 Euros but may go much higher as it has attracted worldwide attention.

Jackie Ridley, the Director of the Dinosaur Museum said the Triceratops is simply spectacular. “It would be really wonderful if we could bring the dinosaur to Britain and in particular The Dinosaur Museum in Dorchester”

She continued, “ Not only is it the only one of its kind in Europe, but generally Britain does not have any complete skeletons of this calibre. Most of the excavated dinosaurs in Britain are fragmentary in comparison. Triceratops was not native to Britain but it would be great for people to see such an important skeleton in the U.K”

The 7.5 metre (24 foot long) Triceratops, is the only one of its kind in Europe. The skeleton, Triceratops horridus a three-horned giant dinosaur was found in 2004 by rancher in the United States in North Dakota. The fossil skeleton is 70 percent complete and is mounted as a complete beast with the missing bones cast in resin from other specimens. It’s the fourth most complete skeleton of Triceratops yet found and is only the second almost complete dinosaur skeleton to go for sale by public auction.

The last fossil skeleton to be sold by auction, a Tyrannosaurus rex, was sold in New York by Sotheby’s in 1997. It was sold to a Chicago Museum for $8 million.

Lies in central Shandong Province, spanning the ranges of Tai'an and Jinan Cities. It covers an area of 550 sq. km. It was known in ancient times as Daishan until it was renamed Taishan in the Spring and Autumn Period, and was regarded as pre-eminent among China's Five Holy Mountains. 72 Chinese emperors of various dynasties made pilgrimages to Mt. Tai for sacrificial and other ceremonial purposes. They include Emperor Qin Shihuang, Emperor Wudi of the Han Dynasty, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty and Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty.

Mt. Tai is endowed with many scenic spots. A large number of them were given names in ancient times. They include 112 peaks, 98 precipices, 18 caves, 58 odd-shaped rocks, 102 streams and valleys, 56 pools and waterfalls, and 64 springs. Vegetation covers 79.9% of the area. The flora is known to comprise 989 species of 144 families.

Mt. Tai also boasts cultural heritage with an incessant history of several thousand years. Currently on the mountain, there are 22 ancient architectural complexes, 97 ruins, 819 stone tablets and 1,800 stone inscriptions, which provide a natural museum for the study of ancient history and calligraphy. Main sites of interest are the Tiankuang Temple, Nantian Gate, Azure Cloud Temple, Peak for Viewing the Sun, Sutra Rock Valley, and Helong Pool.

Mt. Tai is one of the birthplaces of the ancient Chinese civilization along the Yellow River. During the Warring States Period, a 500-km-long wall was built from Mt. Tai to the Yellow Sea. The currently preserved 97 sites and 22 ancient building complexes provide materials for research into China's ancient architecture.

As other European second-home markets, such as Spain and Portugal, continue to slow, there is more demand for a Moroccan home. The Marrakech property market has seen a growing influx of French, Spanish and British property investors, eager to cash in on this emerging market.

Two years from the fulfilment of the King of Morocco’s 2010 vision, tourism and infrastructure development continue apace across the entire Kingdom, and in particular around the popular city of Marrakech. Since 2002 Marrakech land prices have soared by 1,500% in areas like the Ourika Valley.

“The countryside ‘peasants’ are very shrewd negotiators, with their ears to the ground and their hearts set on a fair price for their homeland. Many pieces of land on which luxury Moroccan homes can be built, are owned by large families or cooperatives and to sell it would require an agreement from every single one of them. It takes a long time, and often doesn’t happen,” says Louise Hillcoat from Amazing Morocco, an investment property and holiday home expert company.

But the long time expert in the holiday home market Louise Hillcoat warns that before eager-eyed speculators rush to snap up some Moroccan land or property for sale in Morocco – to retain a while as it grows in value – they need to know the rules of the property market in Morocco.

In Morocco, foreigners cannot buy and then resell land. They can only buy land to which they are going to add value. They can do this by building a residential building or tourist development. So property in Marrakech, Ourika Valley and elsewhere in Morocco has to be lived in so the foreign buyers bring their wealth to the region, or it has to encourage visitors to the area – for example by providing holiday homes.

“To guarantee that this happens, agricultural land is sold to a foreigner together with a binding contract between the developer and the local authority.

“This Vocation Non Agricole (VNA) states that the developer must complete their project, whether luxury Moroccan homes or holiday cottages, as planned, within a set timescale. If the terms are not adhered to, the local community is entitled to reclaim the land,” Louise Hillcoat explains the difficulties of the Marrakech property market.

In addition to that, the land registry will normally not issue individual title deeds until the terms of the VNA have been completed. In 2007, this proved so crippling to developers that Marrakech was in danger of seeing an ocean of abandoned projects and many people losing their Moroccan home in which they had invested.

Marrakech however had a temporary reprieve and any house that was completed to shell and core by December 2007, could apply for their title deed and so sell the properties on. The developers breathed a sigh of relief and construction began again at speed.

Add to this, the increasingly restrictive countryside planning regulations, such as only being able to build one property of 300 sq metres per hectare and any changes to the plans requiring a “back to the start” planning application.

“It could be argued, quite strongly, that investors in Morocco would be advised to find their dream property for sale in Morocco from someone who has already been through this process. Particularly as house prices have increased by a quoted 15% per year over the same period,” Louise Hillcoat says.

Pemerintah Kabupaten Jayapura ingin menjadikan Festival Danau Sentani sebagai atraksi pariwisata andalan dalam menarik kunjungan wisatawan nusantara (wisnus) maupun wisatawan mancanegara (wisman), untuk ini menurut rencana festival tersebut akan digelar setiap tahun dan masuk dalam calendar of event pariwisata utama.

Menurut panitia penyelenggara dalam jumpa pers di gedung Sapta Pesona Jakarta, Senin (3/3), melalui kegiatan Festival Budaya Danau Sentani ingin menjadikan Jayapura sebagai kota Budaya dan Pariwisata, di mana tahun 2009 kota ini akan menjadi daerah tujuan wisata utama di Indonesia. Situs Pura Taman Ayun akan ditetapkan sebagai World Heritage

Mengwi, Pura Taman Ayun di Mengwi, Badung, menurut rencana tahun ini akan ditetapkan sebagai warisan budaya dunia (world heritage). Penetapan ini akan menambah jumlah warisan budaya dunia di Indonesia Candi Borobudur, Candi Prambanan, dan situs manusia purba di Sangiran.

Situs Pura Taman Ayun terletak di Desa Mengwi, Kecamatan Mengwi, Kabupaten Badung. Pura seluas 4 hektar dan dikelilingi kolam besar ini dibangun tahun 1634 masehi, pada masa pemerintahan Raja Mengwi pertama, I Gusti Agung Ngurah Made Agung.

Setiap harinya, Pura Taman Ayun dikunjungi 300 hingga 600 orang pengunjung, baik dari dalam maupun luar negeri. Dengan tiket masuk sebesar Rp. 3 ribu, pengunjung bisa melihat keindahan pura, yang dulunya menjadi tempat rekreasi anggota keluarga Kerajaan Mengwi.

Pura Taman Ayun, hari ini dikunjungi Direktur Jenderal badan PBB UNESCO, Koichiro Matsuura. Kunjungan ini terkait penominasian Pura Taman Ayun sebagai salah satu warisan budaya dunia.

Menurut rencana, Pura Taman Ayun akan ditetapkan menjadi Warisan Budaya Dunia bulan Juli tahun ini. Penetapan ini masih akan dibahas dalam pertemuan general assembly UNESCO di Quebec Kanada, Juni mendatang. Prosesnya sudah 90 persen, kata Menteri Budaya dan Pariwisata, Ir. Jero Wacik.

Pengusulan Pura Taman Ayun sebagai salah satu warisan budaya dunia sudah dimulai sejak tahun 2000 lalu. Iron Age Artefact Placed On Display At Clare Museum

Archaeological company TVAS (Ireland) Ltd. discovered the partial Iron Age wooden bowl at Killow, near Clarecastle, during excavations on the N18 Ennis Bypass and N85 Western Relief Road.

The vessel is being exhibited alongside a modern replica of the entire bowl, produced by a US-based woodturner who downloaded a drawing of the artefact from the Clare Museum website.

According to John Rattigan, Curator of Clare Museum, “The exhibits will give visitors to the museum a good idea of the sophisticated level of design and workmanship that existed in Ireland between 777 and 407 B.C.”

“Clare Museum, in conjunction with TVAS, is pleased to be able to show the people of Clare this fascinating artefact. After all, the main purpose of archaeology is not just to dig and record but to show and tell”, added Mr. Rattigan.

TVAS director Graham Hull described the discovery of the partial wooden bowl as one of the 'best archaeological finds' of his 13-year career.

Commenting further on the discovery, Mr. Hull said, “Once extracted from the ground, the artefact was photographed and wrapped in peat to prevent the wood drying out before being placed in an airtight plastic box. Following the cleaning and conservation of the bowl in a laboratory, we were amazed at how well the vessel had survived the 2500 years in the peat.”

He continued, “I find it exciting that I had the opportunity to see the results of the fine workmanship that went into the making of this bowl. To be able to see an object, that probably held food for a person so long ago, allows a connection with the past that is difficult to explain.”

“The Irish Iron Age is, to a certain degree, 'invisible' compared to the preceding Bronze Age with its many finds of pottery and metalwork and so it was pleasing to add this piece of information to the archaeological record. I am especially pleased with the linking of the Iron Age with the Information Age, that has been achieved by woodturner Mark Zdepski from New Jersey”, concluded Mr. Hull.

Mr. Zdepski produced two replicas of the entire bowl, after downloading a scale drawing from the Clare Museum website. He said he had been attracted to the vessel by its unusually modern design and pointed out that it was made from ash, unlike previously discovered bowls from the same period, which were predominantly made from alder.

Archaeological excavations along the route of the N18 Ennis Bypass and the N85 Western Relief Road took place in late 2003 and early 2004. Archaeological excavation and post-excavation work was undertaken by TVAS (Ireland) Ltd, based at Ballinruan in County Clare. Works were funded by Clare County Council through the National Roads Authority and part-financed by the European Union under the National Development Plan 2000-2006.

Some of the earliest artefacts discovered include pottery fragments, stone tools and cereal grains from a cremation cemetery containing the cremated remains of at least 27 individuals, the earliest of which has been radiocarbon dated to the Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age between 2450-2150 BC.

The original wooden bowl will remain on display at Clare Museum, Ennis, County Clare, until the end of April before it is relocated to the National Museum of Ireland.
